The pages on this site explain public-domain paintings with facts that can be checked.

Sources

• Basic data (date, medium, dimensions and collection): Wikidata, linked on every page, and the museums’ websites.
• History and facts: museum catalogues and websites, standard art-history literature and Wikipedia as a starting point, cross-checked.
• Images: public-domain reproductions, mostly via Wikimedia Commons.

How we write

Every page is written and reviewed individually. We only include well-documented facts and, where something is an interpretation or a hypothesis, we say so. Update dates appear at the bottom of each page.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, message us through the shop and we will correct it and note the date.

This site belongs to the same shop that sells the prints and canvases; links to Etsy point to our own listings.
